The studio announced on Thursday that the movie is due to his the cinemas in February 2016. Ryan Reynolds is likely to pick up the roll but no deal has been confirmed. In place to direct the film is Tim Miller.
Reynolds played Deadpool is 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine where we first saw Deadpool being created by Stryker.
The news of the new Deadpool movie followed the leak of test footage of Reynolds, which was shot several years ago. In a recent interview Reynolds said, “The movie has been in a state of limbo for a while. There was such an overpowering reaction to the footage, you sort of feel like, ‘Oh, so we weren’t crazy for our reasons for loving this character, for loving this role.’ It’s interesting to see the power of the Internet. It’s awe-inspiring, actually,” the actor told the Niagara Falls Review. “And it’s neat that Twitter and Facebook and Instagram can move mountains when used in the right way.”
Reynolds had previously played DC’s Green Lantern but the film failed at the box office and after that had been linked to the Deadpool character even before X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
